Scott speeds to record at Juvenile Indoors day 1

Molly Scott was the star of day one at the GloHealth National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Athlone winning the U18 girls 60m in 7.42 seconds – a national youth record along with tying the national junior record.

The St Laurence O’Toole athlete sparkled on a day where the girls were the stars of the show. Ciara Neville (Emerald) did not start the final but that didn’t phase Scott who powered to an impressive victory. Janine Boyle (Finn Valley) won the silver in 7.54 with Lauren Ryan (Dooneen) third in 7.67.

Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown) continues to reach new levels and got out to 5.85m for a new record in the U19 long jump.

Finn Valley’s Arlene Crossan bagged a double winning the U18 400m in 57.61 and the long jump in 5.57m – just 3cm ahead of St Cronan’s AC’s Kate Taylor (5.54m) and her club mate Janine Boyle with 5.48m.

There were two championships best’s in the U15 shot put. Ciara Sheehy (Liscarroll) excelling with 13.59m while Adam Sheridan (Westport) recorded 13.82m.

All Ireland Schools’ cross country champions Louis O’Loughlin (Donore Harriers) and Adam Fitzpatrick 4:21.61 (Kilkenny City Harriers) transferred to the track with aplomb winning their respective 1500m races. O’Loughlin won the U16s in 4:21.61 while Fitzpatrick won the U17 boys in 4:12.20. Rory Lodge (Kilkenny City Harriers) won the fastest 1500m of the day in the U18s in 4:06.42.

Carla Sweeney (WSAF) won the U19 1500m in style in 4:41.20 – the fastest girls’ 1500m of the day.

Aaron Sexton (North Down) won the U17 60m in a championship best of 7.07.

Christopher O’Donnell (North Sligo) and Mollie O’Reilly (DSD) imposed themselves in the U19 400m with O’Donnell taking the title in 49.39 and O’Reilly winning out in 57.40.
