Wins for Scoil Chriost Ri Portlaoise and Jesus and Mary Secondary School Galway

IT WAS another thrilling day of basketball action at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght as the SUBWAY All Ireland Schools Under 15 Girls A and B finals got underway.

Jesus and Mary SS Salerno, Galway

First up, Jesus and Mary Secondary School Salerno (Galway) secured a thrilling win in a nail-biting finish in the Under 15 B girls final, when they overcame Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra of Kerry in the dying stages of the game to win by two (32-30). Indeed it was Ellie Lydon who secured the game winning basket for her side to much excitement as the final buzzer sounded just three seconds after the ball dropped through the net (full report attached).

Scoil Chriost Ri Portlaoise

Meanwhile in the Under 15 A Girls final, Scoil Chriost Ri Portlaoise romped home to victory, winning out 33-48 against Presentation Castleisland. Superb performances from Sarah Fleming, Ciara Byrne and Jasmine Burke, saw Portlaoise home to glory in the end, but it certainly wasn’t an easy win, as Grainne Walsh and Aine Sheehan of Castleisland put in fantastic displays to make it as difficult as possible for the Laois school (full report attached).

Games continue tomorrow at the National Basketball Arena, with the SUBWAY All Ireland Under 15 A Boys Cup games.
